Kathmandu: Bilateral talks between the governments of Nepal and Germany have successfully concluded in Berlin, with Germany agreeing to provide 51 million euros in financial and technical assistance to Nepal over the next two years.
The assistance will be directed towards several key areas: improving the quality of health infrastructure and services, advancing green and renewable energy initiatives, strengthening local government institutions, and supporting economic and social development in Nepal.
During the discussions, the Nepali delegation highlighted the crucial role of development partners in achieving Nepal’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. They also emphasized the importance of continued support as Nepal transitions from a least developed country to a developing nation. The Nepali side urged Germany to maintain and enhance its support, which the German government committed to doing.
The talks covered a range of additional topics, including collaboration on climate change, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and poverty reduction.
The Nepali delegation was led by Joint Secretary Dhani Ram Sharma from the Ministry of Finance, while Bärbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, represented Germany. Nepal’s Ambassador to Germany, Ram Kaji Khadka, was also present.
