Kathmandu: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced that it will not disconnect electricity supply to industries with overdue payments, reversing earlier plans to take such action.
A meeting of the NEA’s Board of Directors, held Wednesday under the chairmanship of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister, decided to halt the planned disconnections after receiving directives from the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC).
The decision comes after the government had previously instructed the NEA to collect arrears from defaulting industries and warned that power supplies would be cut off if payments were not made within a 15-day ultimatum.
The NEA had been preparing to disconnect the electricity supply to industries that failed to clear their dues by today, the deadline set by the government. However, in a development on Tuesday, the ERC issued a directive advising the NEA against proceeding with the disconnections, prompting the board to reconsider its decision.
