Kathmandu: In a swift response to the recent unrest in Balkumari, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the formation of a three-member committee tasked with investigating the incident that resulted in the unfortunate demise of two individuals.
Heading the probe committee is DIG Lalmani Acharya from the Kathmandu Valley Police Office. He is joined by Assistant Chief District Officer (CDO) of Lalitpur, Amardeep Sunuwar, and Deputy Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department, Basu Sigdel. The committee has been granted a deadline of seven days to compile and submit its comprehensive report.
The incident unfolded amidst protests by youths who were unable to participate in the Employment Permit System (EPS) examination. Frustrated demonstrators set the minister’s vehicle ablaze, prompting law enforcement to intervene with tear gas. Tragically, two lives were lost during the clashes between the protesting youths and the police. This incident comes on the heels of multiple arrests of agitating individuals in the area.
