Milan Acharya surrenders to police, confesses to killing father and brother

Kathmadu: Milan Acharya, 26, has surrendered to the police and confessed to the brutal killings of his father, Kul Prasad Acharya, 56, and younger brother, Pravin Acharya, 22. The Metropolitan Police Circle in Maharajgunj confirmed that Milan is currently being questioned by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office following his surrender.

According to police, Milan admitted to killing both victims at their rented apartment in Balkot, Suryavinayak Municipality 2, Bhaktapur. The family, originally from Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadi Municipality 1 in Khotang, had been living in Bhaktapur for some time. Kul Prasad Acharya, the acting chief of the District Post Office in Khotang, had moved to Kathmandu Valley for official work and was staying with his two sons.

The tragedy unfolded after the family had dinner and went to bed on Saturday night. When the neighbors on the ground floor noticed that there was no movement from their rooms for two days, they contacted the police on Monday morning. Upon breaking the padlock on the door, police discovered the bodies of Kul Prasad and Pravin in separate rooms. However, Milan was nowhere to be found.

CCTV footage from the area revealed that Milan had left the apartment on Saturday night, leading the police to suspect his involvement in the deaths. Milan eventually turned himself in to the authorities on Tuesday.

In his preliminary statement, Milan confessed to the murders and explained that he had been struggling with repeated failures in the civil service exams, having attempted the tests five to six times without success. “Dad was sick, and my younger brother was studying but not working,” Milan reportedly told the police. He also admitted that he had considered taking his own life following the tragic incident, and authorities are continuing to investigate this aspect.

The bodies of Kul Prasad and Pravin Acharya have been transported to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examination. The investigation into the case is ongoing, with police probing further details of the motive behind the double murder.
