Kathmandu: Three major political parties—Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Center)—have reached a two-point agreement in response to the growing controversy over visit visa abuses and immigration irregularities.
Signed by the chief whips of the three parties, the agreement pledges full government cooperation with the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which is currently investigating the matter.
“The government will facilitate the investigation being carried out by the CIAA regarding the irregularities linked to visit visas and immigration,” the agreement states.
The second point calls for a comprehensive policy, legal, and structural reform of the immigration and visa system, to be pursued following an in-depth study.
However, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) opted not to sign the agreement. RSP leaders said they disagreed with the approach outlined in the deal and criticized it as insufficient to address systemic issues.
