Kathmandu: Last night’s heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding across Kathmandu and surrounding areas, significantly impacting local communities. The Nepal Police have reported a total of 36 people rescued from flood-affected zones.
According to Nepal Police, rescue operations have been particularly focused on the hardest-hit areas. In Kathmandu, 12 individuals have been safely evacuated, with 11 rescued from the Kuleshwar and Balkhu regions and one from the New Bus Park area.
In Lalitpur, 24 people have been rescued, including two from UN Park, eight from Sundari Ghat, one from Balkumari Bridge, seven from Changathali in Mahalaxmi Municipality-8, and six from Ram Mandir in Mahalaxmi Municipality.
The flooding has caused extensive damage in several areas. Notable inundations have occurred in Balkhu, the vegetable market, Bafal, the Dhobi Khola corridor, and Sundari Ghat in Kathmandu. Additionally, a landslide in Nagpokhari, Futung has damaged a house, and the vicinity around the New Bus Park and Miteri Bridge has also been submerged.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide aid as necessary, while residents are advised to remain cautious and follow updates from local officials.
