Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is preparing to roll out a digital literacy programme aimed at equipping residents with the skills needed to safely conduct online transactions and reduce vulnerability to cyber threats.
KMC spokesperson Nabin Manandhar said the initiative is being introduced in response to growing concerns over internet-related security risks. “With the increasing use of information technology, every individual should understand proper internet use and basic digital security. Technology makes life easier, but risks rise equally if used carelessly,” he said.
Manandhar added that enhancing digital skills is critical for improving access to public services and ensuring effective implementation of e-governance. “People must be aware of cyber security. This training supports that responsibility and strengthens the foundations for a digital Nepal,” he said.
According to Anirudra Nepal, chief of KMC’s Information Technology Department, the first phase of the programme will begin in wards 17, 18, 19 and 29, with plans to expand to all wards in the coming months.
Training sessions will include lessons on creating strong passwords, using one-time passwords (OTP), identifying viruses and suspicious links, and understanding basic online safety tools.
