Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced a ban on the sale and distribution of plastic flowers during the upcoming Tihar festival. Mayor Balendra Shah made the announcement, emphasizing the need to promote locally-produced flowers.
To support local flower sellers, the KMC has designated 46 specific locations within the metropolitan area for sales during Tihar, Nepal Sambat, and Chhath festivals. Reflecting on challenges from the previous year, Mayor Shah stated that arrangements have been made to facilitate sales at various venues, including malls, parks, and party palaces.
Local flower traders and farmers are encouraged to choose convenient locations for their sales, with assistance from the Metropolitan Police Force readily available. Contact numbers for support will be provided to ensure a smooth process.
Mayor Shah urged traders to avoid selling plastic flowers and other decorative items, warning that those caught violating the ban will face legal action in accordance with existing laws.
