Kathmandu District Court grants bail to medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail after his recent arrest on cybercrime charges. The court set bail at Rs 50,000 for each of the two offenses under the Electronic Transaction Act of 2008.

The ruling was made by a single bench presided over by Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel. Prasai was arrested on September 22 following a complaint from Rastriya Swatantra Party Central Committee member Tika Sangraula and other women, who accused him of character assassination.

Following his arrest, Prasai’s son, Niraj Prasai, filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court on September 23. However, on September 24, Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut conducted a preliminary hearing on the petition and issued a 15-day show-cause order against the defendants, preventing Prasai from securing bail at that time.

The situation continues to develop as legal proceedings unfold.
