Kathmandu: Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Media Group (KMG), has been released on a general date after spending nine days in custody on charges of citizenship fraud. The release comes following a recommendation by DSP Ranjan Awa of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, with the condition that Sirohiya must appear before the police when summoned.
Sirohiya, who was detained in connection with a citizenship case, was transported to Kathmandu via helicopter on Tuesday. Last Friday, he was admitted to Kavya Hospital in Janakpur due to health concerns.
Upon recommendation by his attending physician, Sirohiya was airlifted to Kathmandu for further medical attention, citing heart and high blood pressure issues. He has since been referred to Medicity Hospital in Kathmandu for advanced care.
Sirohiya’s arrest on May 21 at the KMG office in Kathmandu stemmed from a complaint of citizenship offense filed on April 28 by Madhesh Provincial Assembly member of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Indrajit Prasad Mahato.
The investigation into the matter has seen extensions, with the Dhanusha District Court granting an additional three days on Monday, marking the third extension period.
