Kathmandu: Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has presented 35 ambulances and 66 school buses to various organizations across Nepal today. The keys to these vehicles were formally handed over by Naveen Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Nepal, in a ceremony attended by Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun, along with mayors, chairpersons of municipalities and rural municipalities from different districts, representatives of beneficiary organizations, political figures, government officials, and social workers.
According to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy, the distribution included 2 ambulances specifically allocated for the earthquake-affected districts of Jajarkot and West Rukum, with the keys handed over on-site in the presence of local officials and residents.
This act of generosity reflects a longstanding tradition, with the Government of India having gifted ambulances and school buses to Nepal for over three decades, particularly on the occasions of India’s Independence Day and Republic Day. The Indian Embassy underscored the significance of this gesture, emphasizing India’s unwavering commitment to supporting Nepal’s health and education sectors.
During the event, Ambassador Srivastava highlighted the initiative’s role in the Nepal-India Development Partnership, aimed at enhancing Nepal’s infrastructure in health and education. He emphasized the tangible impact of this partnership, which extends throughout Nepal, contributing to the country’s developmental journey.
Finance Minister Pun lauded India’s ongoing developmental projects in Nepal, emphasizing their role in strengthening bilateral relations and people-to-people connectivity. He expressed appreciation for the flagship ambulance and school bus gifting program, recognizing its significant benefits for the people of Nepal.
Since 1994, the Government of India has gifted a total of 1009 ambulances and 300 school buses to Nepal, including those distributed today. This initiative reflects India’s continuous support for Nepal’s efforts to improve healthcare and education facilities and enhance access to these vital services.
The event serves as a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between India and Nepal, symbolizing a shared commitment to mutual prosperity and well-being.
