India highlights significance of Foreign Secretary Misri’s Nepal visit in bilateral relations

Kathmandu: India’s Ministry of External Affairs has underscored the importance of Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s recent two-day visit to Nepal, emphasizing its impact on strengthening bilateral ties. In a detailed nine-point press release issued on Monday evening, the Ministry reaffirmed Nepal’s status as a priority partner under India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy.

The visit, which continued the tradition of high-level exchanges between the two nations, marked a significant advancement in their bilateral relationship. Both countries celebrated their deep-rooted and amicable connections, which are based on shared historical, cultural, and civilizational ties, along with strong people-to-people relations.

The press release noted the progress achieved in various areas of cooperation, particularly in infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, integrated check posts, inland railways, and petroleum pipelines. Enhanced energy cooperation was also highlighted, with increased electricity exports from Nepal benefiting both nations—providing Nepal with economic gains and India with additional clean energy resources.

During his visit, Foreign Secretary Misri engaged with several key Nepali leaders, including President Ram Chandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Ministers Prakash Man Singh and Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba. The discussions centered on enhancing collaboration across various sectors and reinforcing the partnership between India and Nepal.
