Kathmandu: A passenger’s handbag burst into flames today due to a power bank explosion at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
The alarming event unfolded as the power bank, housed in a bag, detonated while the passenger was seated in the waiting room with a boarding pass, moments away from boarding their flight.
Quick-thinking airport staff swiftly intervened, successfully extinguishing the fire before it could escalate.
According to Pratap Babu Tiwari, the director of TIA, the handbag in question belonged to a passenger bound for China on an Air China flight. The blaze was directly attributed to the explosive failure of the power bank.
While the immediate threat has been neutralized, authorities are yet to disclose further details surrounding the incident.
