Kathmandu: The government has slashed customs duties on imports of sanitary pads.
In the federal parliament on Sunday, Finance Minister Jarnadhan Sharma said that such customs duty has been reduced by 90 percent.
Till the current Fiscal Year, 15 percent customs duty was levied on the import of sanitary pads used by women during menstruation.
Similarly, Finance Minister Sharma has announced that companies wanting to open sanitary pad industry in Nepal will be given exemption in income tax for 7 years and concession in import of raw materials.
The government has adopted a policy of tax exemption on the pretext that lower class women could not afford the use of sanitary pads due to high cost.
