Govt extends four more weeks to vaccinate senior citizens

Kathmandu: The government has set a new deadline for citizens over the age of 65 to be vaccinated against the second dose of corona virus after the government failed to bring in more vaccines.

The Ministry of Health and Population had earlier said that the second dose should be given within 8 to 12 weeks of the first dose of the covishield vaccine made in India. But now the second dose of the vaccine has been fixed for 16 weeks.

As there is not enough vaccine available in Nepal for senior citizens to get the second dose, the government has extended the time period. One million doses purchased from the Serum Institute of India, a vaccine manufacturer, is yet to be decided.
