Government finally decides to release prize amount various athletes

Kathmandu: During the Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, it was decided to release a total of NPR 20,971,010 as prize money announced earlier for various athletes.

The proposal put forward by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which received approval from the Cabinet, ensures cash prizes for medalists of the 19th Asian Games, cricket team, and para taekwondo players and coaches.

The cricket team, which secured second place in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Region Final held in November last year, will receive a total of NPR 24,750,000 in cash prizes.

Fifteen players will receive NPR 1,300,000 each, while head coach Monty Desai will receive NPR 390,000. Similarly, team manager Suman Raj Karki, assistant coach Basanta Shahi, and physio Vikram Neupane will each receive NPR 195,000.

Erika Gurung, who secured a historic silver medal for Nepal in the 19th Asian Games, will receive NPR 1,950,000. Head coach Kishor Shrestha will receive NPR 234,000, while assistant coaches Chhori Dangol and Virkrishna Shahi, and manager Nivas Gopal Wagle will each receive NPR 195,000.

The Karate team, which won bronze in the Asian Games, will receive a total of NPR 2,535,000. The Kabaddi team, which won bronze in the Asian Games, will receive NPR 4,810,000 in cash prizes.

Additionally, Palesha Goverdhan, who won gold in Para Taekwondo at the 4th Asian Para Games 2022, will receive NPR 1,300,000. Head coach Kaviraj Negi Lamal will receive NPR 260,000, while team manager Ram Chandra Shrestha will receive NPR 130,000.
