Gen-Z Movement: Nationwide public transport suspended

Kathmandu: The Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs National Federation has announced an indefinite suspension of public and freight transport services across the country, citing safety concerns following Monday’s deadly crackdown on Gen Z protesters.

In a statement, the federation expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of 19 students during the peaceful Gen Z demonstrations on Sept 8 and noted the widespread disruption of daily life, including the imposition of curfews in several areas. The federation said transport services would not resume until the government provides assurances of peace and security.

The federation extended condolences to the victims and called for prompt medical care for the injured, urging all member associations, companies, and organizations under its umbrella to support the treatment of affected individuals.

“Due to the tragic events, public and freight transport operations have become extremely difficult across Kathmandu Valley and other parts of the country,” the statement read. “We request all members to refrain from operating services until proper security measures are guaranteed by the government.”

The transport suspension is expected to further affect the movement of goods and passengers nationwide amid ongoing unrest.
