Former Vice President’s son arrested for alleged involvement in gold smuggling

Kathmanu: Dipesh Pun, son of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, finds himself in legal trouble as Nepal Police authorities apprehend him in Kathmandu on Friday, on suspicions of his involvement in gold smuggling activities.

The arrest comes following investigations linking Pun to Dawa Chhiring, the purported mastermind behind the smuggling of approximately 61 kilograms of gold intercepted at the customs office of Tribhuvan International Airport last June.

According to DIG Bhim Prasad Dhakal, spokesperson for the Nepal Police, Dipesh Pun’s arrest follows substantial evidence connecting him to the illicit gold trade. Investigations suggest a close association between Pun and Dawa Chhiring, underscoring Pun’s alleged complicity in the smuggling operation.

The revelation of Pun’s alleged involvement emerged following the submission of a comprehensive report by the commission tasked with probing gold smuggling activities. The report, submitted to the Home Minister recently, implicates Dipesh Pun in the illicit trafficking of gold.

The arrest of the former Vice President’s son highlights the severity of the issue of gold smuggling in Nepal and underscores the authorities’ commitment to combatting such illicit activities. As the investigation progresses, further developments are anticipated. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story.
