Kathmandu: Five Nepali nationals who had been imprisoned in Iran have safely returned to Kathmandu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Friday.
The individuals arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday night after being released by an Iranian court. Their repatriation was made possible through coordinated diplomatic efforts involving Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the honorary consulate in Tehran, and support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
“Five Nepalis who were in an Iranian jail have safely returned to Nepal last night following the diplomatic efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We express sincere thanks to all who supported this effort,” Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba stated on social media.
Their return is part of a broader evacuation initiative launched in response to rising tensions between Iran and Israel in June. The five had been detained during this period of unrest.
Earlier, during an evacuation operation led by India for its citizens in Iran, nine Nepali nationals were also assisted in returning home.
