Finance ministry commits to prevent exploitation of Chure area

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Finance has stated that the government is committed to the protection of the Chure region.

Protests are taking place after the government said through the budget that it will reduce the trade deficit by extracting mining stones and sand.

According to the Environment Impact Assessment Report identified by the Department of Mines and Geology in a press release, the policy approach has been presented to excavate mines in suitable areas other than Chure / Bhavar / Shivalik and river systems.

The government is aware to prevent the exploitation of construction materials from the Chure area and to have a negative impact on the environment, the statement said.

The Ministry of Finance has stated that the government is committed to making procedures, guidelines, criteria, and legal arrangements based on the suggestions received after discussing with the concerned government bodies, environmentalists, experts, and stakeholders.
