Every year, 900 million tons of food is wasted worldwide

Kathmandu: It has been found that 900 million tons of food is being wasted every year in the world.

According to a global report, 900 million tons of food is thrown away every year. The United Nations Environment Program’s Food Waste Index shows that 17 percent of food available to consumers in shops, homes and restaurants goes directly into the bins, according to the BBC.

About 60 percent of them leave home. The report of the United Nations Partnership Program highlights a global problem that is far greater than previously thought. According to the report, it is not possible to determine at what level this problem differs between low- and high-income countries.

The report notes that people have begun to plan more carefully for food and shopping.
