EU Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo meets Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli

Kathmandu: European Union Ambassador Veronique Lorenzo made a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli expressed his appreciation for the European Union’s continued support towards Nepal’s economic and social development. He highlighted ongoing efforts to address the issue of transitional justice, a key element of Nepal’s peace process.

Prime Minister Oli provided an update on the progress of the bill aimed at amending the Enforced Disappeared Persons Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act, 2014. This proposed amendment seeks to align with the principles of the Comprehensive Peace Accord, Supreme Court directives, international standards, and the needs of the victims. The bill focuses on investigating cases of missing persons and ensuring justice, truth, and reconciliation.

In his remarks, PM Oli noted the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the European Union, underscoring Nepal’s aspirations to transition to a developing nation by 2026 and a middle-income country by 2030. He emphasized the critical role of development partners in achieving these milestones.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Nepali government’s commitment to democracy and its proactive approach in poverty alleviation and socio-economic development.

Ambassador Lorenzo extended her best wishes for the success of the Nepali government’s initiatives and conveyed her hopes for a successful tenure for Prime Minister Oli.
