Kathmandu: The Election Commission has asked explanation from Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri of CPN (UML), who is a candidate for a member of the House of Representatives from Pyuthan.
The commission has asked for an explanation as the audio-visual material used by children for election campaigning has been received by the commission.
Section 13 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2022, under the conduct to be followed by political parties, candidates, party’s fraternal organizations and related persons, clause (t) of sub-section (1) states that ‘children should not be used or used in election campaigning, public meetings and processions’. Candidate Thapa Chhetri used children for his election campaign.
He has also been instructed to submit an explanation within 24 hours.
He has also been asked to explain why the Commission will not take action.
