Kathmandu: Deepak Joshi has been reappointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the country’s national tourism organization. Joshi, who previously served as NTB CEO from December 2016 to December 2019, secured the position once again after a competitive election against former CEO Dhanjaya Regmi and Gyaneshwar Mahoto.
The CEO position at NTB has been vacant since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period during which the tourism sector in Nepal has faced significant challenges. Joshi’s appointment comes at a crucial time as the industry works towards recovery and rebuilding.
With 25 years of experience in destination management, tourism promotion, and Public-Private Partnerships, Joshi is well-regarded in the tourism sector. His previous tenure was marked by notable contributions, particularly in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, where he led the Tourism Recovery Committee (TRC) Nepal Secretariat.
Joshi has also been involved with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), serving on the Executive Board and as Chairperson of the Destination Committee. His work extended beyond Nepal, with significant contributions to global tourism networks, including the World Tourism Network (WTN), which he helped establish during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recognized for his leadership and commitment, Joshi received the IIPT Champions in Challenge Award from the International Institute for Peace Through Travel and Tourism in 2018 and was named Best CEO in Asia in the national tourism board category. His efforts in the global rebuilding travel network and participation in numerous international discussions on tourism recovery have been widely acclaimed.
In addition to his professional achievements, Joshi is an accomplished writer and researcher, contributing to national publications and co-authoring the book “Readings in Rural Tourism.” He has also presented original ideas at various seminars and workshops both in Nepal and abroad.
Joshi’s educational background includes a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s in Sociology from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He has also undertaken international courses in project development, destination management, and marketing.
Known for his quick wit, humor, and dedication, Joshi was named one of the first “Tourism Heroes” by the World Tourism Network in 2014. This accolade reflects his passionate commitment to sustainable tourism development and his tireless efforts in enhancing Nepal’s tourism sector through various roles and volunteer work.
Joshi’s reappointment as NTB CEO is expected to provide strong leadership and strategic direction as Nepal’s tourism industry continues to navigate its recovery and growth in the post-pandemic era.
