Kathmandu: The government has revoked the decision made by the then Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane regarding the National Identity Card.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday has decided to cancel the decision made by the then Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to allow management of personal data and state security matters to private companies in the process of securely verifying the details of citizens through the National Identity Card Management Information System and interlinking.
Speaking to the media after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Government Spokesperson and Minister of Information and Communications Rekha Sharma said that the procedure approved by the then Home Minister Lamichhane to award a contract to a private company for the management of National Identity Cards has been cancelled.
She also said that the government has decided to form a separate committee to study the procedure.
