COVID-19 and dengue cases rise across Nepal, Health Ministry issues alert

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Health and Population has reported a steady increase in COVID-19 and Dengue cases across Nepal, raising public health concerns as the monsoon season intensifies. The data, released in the latest situation report covering the period from January 1 to July 3, 2025, shows growing transmission trends for both diseases.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), Nepal has recorded a total of 249 COVID-19 cases so far this year. Of these, 35 new infections were reported in the past week, with 3 additional cases confirmed in the last 36 hours.

COVID-19 cases have been reported in 31 districts, with one confirmed death attributed to the virus in 2025. The week-wise trend shows a rising curve, with Epidemiological Week 26 recording the highest number of cases (59), followed by Week 25 with 29 cases, indicating a possible outbreak trajectory.

Bagmati Province remains the most affected, logging 26 new cases in the last 7 days and accounting for 92 cumulative cases. Other provinces such as Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Lumbini also reported new infections, while Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces have seen no new COVID-19 cases during the period.

Meanwhile, Dengue cases continue to surge, with a cumulative total of 1,677 cases reported nationwide. Sixty-three cases were detected in the last 7 days and two new infections in the past 36 hours. While no fatalities have been recorded so far, 73 districts have reported Dengue infections, indicating widespread transmission.

Health authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures. These include maintaining hygiene, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and seeking early medical attention upon experiencing symptoms such as fever, body aches, or rashes.

The Ministry has assured that it is actively monitoring both diseases and coordinating with local governments to control further spread.
