Kathmandu: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken action against Chiribabu Maharjan, Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, following allegations of unauthorized fund distribution intended for flood victims.
According to a complaint lodged with the CIAA, it is alleged that Rs 150,000 and Rs 250,000 were disbursed to flood victims in Dhapakhel during the fiscal year 2077 BS, contrary to prescribed executive directives.
This development comes amidst recent controversies involving Lalitpur Metropolitan City, including reports of land encroachment on temple premises. A bulldozer allegedly involved in clearing the encroached land reportedly damaged the compound wall of CIAA Commissioner Sumitra Amatya.
The summons issued to Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan signals a further escalation in the investigation by the CIAA into these allegations of financial impropriety.
