Kathmandu: China has expressed regret over India’s missile strikes on Pakistan, which left at least eight people dead and more than 35 injured. The airstrike, carried out on Wednesday morning, has drawn international concern, including a statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urging both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint.
According to Reuters, the Chinese foreign ministry issued a statement calling the attack “regrettable” and said, “China is saddened by India’s military action this morning. We are concerned about the current situation.”
The statement also emphasized that both India and Pakistan are neighbors of China and urged both sides to avoid taking any steps that could further escalate tensions. “We urge both parties to remain calm and refrain from any actions that could complicate the situation further,” it read. The ministry reiterated China’s opposition to all forms of terrorism.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump had also responded to the developments, expressing hope that the conflict would end soon. “I just heard about the attack. These countries have been in conflict for decades. I hope this recent escalation ends quickly,” Trump said while speaking to journalists.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also stated that the United States is closely monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan.
