China announces grant aid of Rs. 9 billion to Nepal

Kathmandu: The Chinese government has announced a grant aid of 500 million RMB (approximately 9 billion Nepali Rupees) to Nepal. The announcement was made during a meeting between Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and China’s President Xi Jinping.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting between Prime Minister Oli and President Xi was conducted in a very cordial atmosphere, where they had detailed discussions on various bilateral issues and interests.

Deputy Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Dhakal mentioned that President Xi emphasized that Nepal and China share a long-standing relationship as good neighbors and friends, based on mutual goodwill, respect, and cooperation. He also reiterated China’s firm commitment to supporting Nepal’s development and prosperity.

President Xi further expressed readiness to promote the import of Nepali goods into the Chinese market and encourage Chinese investors to invest in Nepal.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Prime Minister Oli invited President Xi to visit Nepal in 2025. In response, President Xi thanked Prime Minister Oli for the invitation and expressed his willingness to visit Nepal at an appropriate time.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli praised China’s rapid development and its achievements in poverty alleviation within a short period. He also shared that the current government is focused on economic development and transformation under the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.” He expressed Nepal’s interest in further cooperation and partnership with China in the field of economic development.
