Kathmandu: A devastating flood and landslide, triggered by a massive avalanche, struck Thame village in the Solukhumbu district on Friday, causing extensive damage. According to police the disaster has resulted in the destruction of at least twelve houses and a school building.
Twelve houses, one clinic, and one basic school have been swept away. Additionally, seven more houses are at risk, and the threat of further landslides has increased due to ongoing riverbank erosion.
The avalanche struck Thame village around 1:45 PM on Friday. In response to the emergency, a rescue team from the Nepalese Army was promptly dispatched.
The team successfully rescued six individuals from the affected area. Preliminary estimates indicate that between 15 and 20 houses may have been buried by the landslide. As of now, there have been no reported casualties.
