Asar 15 to be celebrated as National Film Day

Kathmandu: The government has decided to celebrate the 15th of Nepali month Asar as the National Film Day now onwards.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung shared this today amidst a programme organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the Nepal Film Development Board.

Minister Gurung, also the Spokesperson of the government, informed that the cabinet meeting convened on June 27 decided to this effect.

“Marking the proud history of 60 years of Nepali cinema sector, we have decided to observe Asar 15 as the National Film Day considering the release date of the first Nepali movie produced in Nepal- ‘Aama’ (Mother), the Minister announced.

He further expressed his confidence that this would contribute to continuing the tradition of celebrating the history of Nepali cinema.

On the occasion, Minister Gurung honoured the 25 highest grossing Nepali films released since the establishment of the Board on this day in 2000.

Currently, Asar 15 is being celebrated as the National Paddy Day in Nepal. Nepalis also mark Asar 15 by enjoying yogurt and beaten rice as a special dish.
