Kathmandu: In a highly anticipated announcement, Apple has unveiled its latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, complementing the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus introduced earlier this year. These new models are positioned as the company’s premium offerings, featuring enhanced screens and advanced camera capabilities compared to their more standard counterparts.
The iPhone 16 Pro boasts a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a larger 6.9-inch screen, surpassing the dimensions of the previous generation’s 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays. Both Pro models come with what Apple describes as “the thinnest borders on any Apple product,” claiming these are “by far our best iPhone displays ever.” Constructed with nearly half the weight of stainless steel, the new titanium frames are also noted for their superior scratch resistance.
Apple is offering the new Pro models in four finishes: white, black, natural, and “desert.” The iPhone 16 Pro Max is touted to have “the best iPhone battery life ever,” although specific details about the improvements were not disclosed.
Under the hood, the iPhone 16 Pro series is powered by the A18 Pro chip, which features second-generation 3-nanometer transistors and a new 16-core neural engine designed for generative artificial intelligence tasks. This chip delivers a 17% increase in total system memory bandwidth, offering faster and more efficient performance compared to its predecessor, the A18.
Camera upgrades include a new 48-megapixel “fusion camera” that reads data twice as fast as before, alongside a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera for enhanced detail in wide-angle shots. The new 5x telephoto camera allows for more detailed zoom photos. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro models now support 4K video capture at 120 frames per second, marking the highest resolution and frame rate ever for iPhone video.
For audio enthusiasts, the Pro models are equipped with four “studio-quality” microphones designed to reduce noise, enhance vocal and acoustic recordings, and capture spatial audio. A new “Audio Mix” feature, described as an “industry first,” utilizes machine learning to separate background elements from user speech.
Later this year, Apple will also update the Voice Memos app to allow users to layer additional tracks over previously recorded voice memos, providing musicians and creators with new tools for their projects.
The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is priced at $1,199. Both models will be available for preorder on Friday, with in-store availability commencing on September 20.
