Kathmandu: The Election Commission (EC) has urged the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist to submit their petitions within 15 days.
A meeting of the commission held on Tuesday decided to inform the UML and the Maoist to submit a petition within 15 days after proposing a new name and symbol of the party.
Earlier, the new party formed by the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist was registered as the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) by the Election Commission. However, the Supreme Court on Sunday dismissed the name as similar to that of a party already registered with the Election Commission.
The meeting of the commission held to discuss the decision of the apex court decided to unify the parties from their respective central committees so as not to contradict the Political Parties Act, 2073 BS and the Political Parties Rules, 2074 BS.
The Commission has decided to inform the CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Center that they are separate parties.
