Kathmandu: The Nepal Army is set to clear six mountains of the country. In 2019 Nepal Army had cleaned Mt Everest. This year army is planning to celan Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse, Mt Pumori, Mt Amadablam, Mt Makalu and Mt Dhaulagiri.
The army has targeted to collect 35 tonnes of garbage by cleaning the base camp and the area above it. The army has stated that the target is to collect 18 tons of garbage from above the base camp.
The Nepal Army has stated that it will cooperate with the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Nepal Tourism Board, Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Thasang Rural Municipality, Makalu Varun Municipality, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Himalayan Rescue Association and Everest Pollution Control Committee for the cleaning campaign.
The campaign will start by handing over the banner to the climbing team on April 13 and will end on June 5, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The army has also stated that the non-perishable garbage will be brought to Kathmandu by helicopter and vehicle and handed over to the reusable organization. The expedition will have the support of 43 climbing members of the Nepal Army and other people including Sherpas.
The army has stated that special training will be held in Jomsom of Mustang for cleaning the mountains.
