Agreement to bring additional 100 MW of electricity from India

Kathmandu: The Government of India has agreed to provide additional 100 MW of electricity to Nepal. At the meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Technical Group on Energy, India agreed to provide additional 100 MW of electricity through the Dhalbekbar-Muzaffarpur 400 KV transmission line.Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is importing up to 250 MW of electricity from this line. According to an official of NEA, the way is now open to import up to 350 MW of electricity from the 400 KV inter-country transmission line.Due to the winter weather, there is a high demand for electricity during evening. From India, 680 MW to 700 MW of electricity is being imported from various international transmission lines during peak hours. Now that amount will reach 800 MW. At present, the system has a peak load of 1464 MW. Out of that, the demand for about 750 MW of electricity has been met by domestic production.Recently, Nepal has constructed a 400 KV substation at Dhalkebar. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is also scheduled to inaugurate the substation on Monday. After the construction of this substation, the way has been opened to bring up to one thousand megawatts of electricity from Dhalkebar.
