Kathmandu: The first meeting of the preliminary study committee formed by the government for the establishment of chemical fertilizer factory in Nepal has been held on Wednesday.
A meeting chaired by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, convener of the study committee, discussed about the preparation, technology and possible cost of setting up a chemical fertilizer factory, according to the Ministry of Finance.
Members of the committee including Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Lekhraj Bhatt, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Padmakumari Aryal and secretaries also participated in the meeting.
Although discussions were held to decide on the technology and methods prevalent in the world from natural gas, water electrolysis and hybrid to be suitable for Nepal, no conclusion was reached.
Finance Minister and coordinator of the committee Bishnu Prasad Poudel said that the next meeting of the committee will prepare a proposal on the technology, method of investment and cost related to the establishment of chemical fertilizer factory in Nepal after further discussion.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on October eight formed a committee under the coordination of the Finance Minister to conduct a preliminary study on the establishment of a chemical fertilizer factory in Nepal. However, the committee meeting could not be held after the then Agriculture Minister Ghanshyam Bhusal resigned due to political changes after the dissolution of the House of Representatives.
