Beijing (IDC): According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, 84.8 million smartphones were shipped in China in the third quarter of 2020, down 14.3 percent year-on-year (YoY). This was the result of multiple factors: soft demand; Huawei’s supply constraints; and delayed flagship launches from both Huawei and Apple.
According to the report, demand for smartphones in the Chinese market declined during the period, with Huawei and Apple delaying the launch of new smartphones, as well as problems with Huawei.
Huawei tops the Chinese smartphone market with a market share of 41.4 percent. However, Huawei has had to reduce production of some models, including the Mate 30 series.
The IDC report said: “As the US sanctions on Huawei tightened in August, the impact was felt in the company’s domestic market.
However, the US sanctions have not eased the craze of Huawei’s domestic fans, which has allowed Huawei’s market share in China to remain above 40 percent.
Vivo is the second largest smartphone maker in the world after Huawei with a market share of 17.8 percent. Oppo is in third place with 16.6 percent.
Xiaomi ranks fourth with a 13 percent share of the Chinese smartphone market, while Apple ranks fifth. Apple has a market share of 8.3 percent in the Chinese smartphone market.
