Kathmandu: Nepal has won two awards in an international school level astronomy competition. Rahul Ranjan Sah from St. Xavier’s College Maitighar and Anshuraj Sedhai from Capital College and Research Center Koteshwor have received the Honorable Mention Award for Nepal in this year’s ‘Global e-Competition on Astronomy and Astrophysics’.
The team led by Suresh Bhattarai from Nepal included Manisha Dwa, Project Coordinator and Director of the Nepal Astronomical Society as a Mentor, Vijay Chandra Luitel and Ankit Wenju Shrestha, Associate Members and Former Olympiad Competitors.
The international competition, which started on September 26, was concluded on November 25. Nepal has bagged two awards in the individual and collective competitions. In the competition, 279 individuals from 40 countries including Nepal and 154 from the collective side participated.
Fourteen students selected from the 7th National Astronomy Olympiad from Nepal have participated in the competition.
With the 14th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics 2021 scheduled to be held in Colombia due to Kovid-19, the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astronomy and the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astronomy have organized a competition this year in an effort to keep students’ morale high. The request was passed.
The National Astronomy Olympiad is a talent recognition program for students under the age of 20 studying in classes 8 to 12 in Nepal. The students who have been participating in this competition in Nepal since 2014 have been participating in various international competitions, receiving medals and awards, enrolling in high level universities and campuses inside and outside the country and have been performing excellently.
