MoALD launches nationwide agricultural survey

Kathmandu: Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) has initiated a nationwide agricultural survey in coordination with local governments, provincial line ministries, and sectoral stakeholders.

According to Ramkrishna Regmi, Chief of the Ministry’s Statistics Section, a one-door system has been implemented to prevent duplication in data collection. The survey will gather information on crop production, livestock, costs, marketing, income, irrigation, and agricultural infrastructure. Enumerators will visit farmers directly, using a sampling method for data collection.

In the first phase, 600,000 farmers will be selected, with 51,000 of them surveyed in detail. This detailed assessment will document farmers’ experiences, access to government services and subsidies, and the challenges they face, ensuring first-hand and comprehensive data.

The initiative is regarded as one of the most significant national-level surveys after the National Census and Agricultural Census. Results are expected to be published between January and February 2026.

MoALD has also rolled out training and capacity-building programs at the local level to strengthen data collection. The ministry expects the findings to serve as a scientific basis for formulating evidence-based agricultural policies and plans.
