Kathmandu: Authorities have enforced a six-day night travel ban along the BP Highway amid heightened monsoon risks.
The Kavrepalanchok District Administration Office announced that the restriction will remain in place from Thursday until October 7. The decision follows forecasts by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), which has warned of heavy rainfall between October 3 and 6.
During the period, all vehicles—except ambulances and those providing essential services—are prohibited from operating at night. From October 3 to 7, public and private passenger vehicles will be completely barred between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the Kavre Bhanjyang–Bhakundebesi–Sindhuli stretch of the highway.
Officials said the move aims to minimize risks of accidents and disruptions, as the highway remains vulnerable. The BP Highway had suffered significant damage from floods and landslides during last year’s monsoon, much of which has not yet been fully repaired.
