Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has reiterated the urgency of holding election to the House of Representatives (HoR) on the slated date.
He sought cooperation from all sides to this regard. The Head of the State made it clear that he lifted the country out of political vacuum based on general consensus as there was not any measure at hand to form a new government from the HoR.
President Paudel said it while addressing a special ceremony organized at his office, Shital Niwas on the occasion of the Constitution Day (National Day) on Friday. He informed that political crisis was given an exit by mandating the new government to hold the HoR election within six months, considering the adverse situation.
He further argued his move as a step to give a sustainable political outlet through timely election. To this end, the President sought cooperation from all political parties, administration and officials, intellectuals and citizens.
They are urged to ditch the disagreement and conflict and get united for holding the election successfully on time. “This constitution has made Nepali citizen sovereign and independent. All castes, religions and communities have been given equal rights. It is indeed a historic achievement we made so far. So, it is essential for all to protect this constitution,” Paudel underscored.
The Head of the State also recounted his early days- embarking on politics when he was 17-year-old for democracy. “I’m by circumstance placed in a position to tackle the political adversity and vacuum. This adversity is handled tactfully through all sides’ understanding, coordination and cooperation,” President Paudel added. He called on all to commit to democracy, to good governance, to honesty and morality and to work by keeping in centre the people on this special occasion, the Constitution Day.
“I wish the Day inspired everyone to work for fulfilling the dream and aspiration of Nepali citizens as demonstrated in various movements by making the constitution living, and building a just society,” he said, expecting continuous support and goodwill from all friendly countries at this difficult moment.
President Paudel stated that the country once again has entered the new path of transformation with new aspirations. “It’s my firm conviction that the new people’s mandate will figure out the country’s upcoming path by further institutionalizing democracy. The interim government will hand over power to the people’s elected body by holding elections in six months and by rebuilding the damaged infrastructures.
This is the major responsibility of all Nepalis at present,” the President said. On the occasion, President Paudel stated that the nation witnessed unimagined human casualties and physical damages during the two days’ Gen-Z protests and added that he could experience the trauma of the parents who lost their kids.
“As a guardian of the nation, I can realize the loss caused due to the passing of those bright youths of the nation. On the occasion of the Constitution Day today, I would like to recall the awakening and goodwill of those all youths who took to the streets on September 8 calling for a system and a bright future of the country,” the President added.
The President viewed that the living standards of all Nepalis could be transformed by best utilizing the immense potentials of the country. “For this, our constitution always sets a guideline. We all know that our constitution has targeted to build a socialism-oriented economy based on democracy.”
President Paudel urged all to come up with correction to curb corruption and anomalies as demanded by the Gen-Z, adding that an equitable and prosperous Nepal was possible only if we prioritize good governance, end to anomaly, employment creation, environmental sustainability and social justice.
Present on the occasion were Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal, former Presidents Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Bidya Devi Bhandari, former prime ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Jhalanath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and Dr Baburam Bhattarai and the representatives of Gen-Z.
