Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Sunday ordered the government to explain its decision to ban the social media app Telegram.
A single bench of Justice Til Prasad Shrestha issued a show-cause order in response to a writ petition filed by advocates Abhaya Raj Joshi, Monika Dhakhwa and Gyan Basnet.
The petitioners argued that the Nepal Telecommunications Authority’s July 18 directive violates constitutional rights and Section 43 of the Electronic Transactions Act.
They have sought the annulment of the ban, calling it a regressive move that curtails freedom of expression.
