Nepal govt to borrow Rs 215 billion from multilateral lenders

Kathmandu: The government will take foreign loans amounting to Rs 215 billion in the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26, according to the Ministry of Finance.

Out of the total foreign assistance commitment of Rs 232 billion from multilateral lending institutions, only Rs 16.92 billion will be in the form of grants, with the remainder comprising loans.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will be the largest contributor, providing a total of Rs 117 billion, of which Rs 3.26 billion will be grants. The World Bank is expected to extend Rs 75.80 billion, including Rs 3.75 billion in loans.

From education development partners, Nepal is set to receive Rs 15.06 billion, with approximately Rs 5 billion categorized as grants.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has pledged Rs 4.81 billion, of which Rs 4.35 billion will be in grants. Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is slated to provide concessional loans worth Rs 11.20 billion.
