Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has remanded Durga Prasai and his associate Deepak Bohara to judicial custody for 12 days for further investigation into their alleged involvement in the violent pro-monarchy protest held in Tinkune on March 28.

According to court officials, a single bench of Judge Shishirraj Dhakal issued the order after police produced the duo before the court on Thursday. Prasai, believed to be the chief coordinator of the demonstration, had been absconding since the incident and was reportedly arrested across the border in India before being brought to Nepal. His associate Deepak Khadka was also detained during the same operation.

The March 28 protest turned violent, leading to the deaths of two people, including journalist Suresh Rajak. The incident caused widespread damage, including the arson and vandalism of buildings and vehicles, both public and private.

The arrest took place in Bhadrapur, Jhapa, earlier today, after which both suspects were transported to Kathmandu for legal proceedings. Police had sought a 12-day remand to facilitate ongoing investigation into the violence and organizational planning behind the protest.

Earlier, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leaders Rabindra Mishra and Dhawal Shamsher Rana were also arrested in connection with the same protest and remanded for 15 days for investigation.
