Kathmandu: Light rain fell across parts of the Kathmandu Valley on Wednesday afternoon, offering a potential reprieve from the high levels of air pollution that have gripped the region in recent days.

According to Hydrology and Meteorology, rainfall was recorded in several locations including Tribhuvan International Airport, Tinkune, Phulchoki, Chandragiri, Sallaghari in Bhaktapur, and Duwakot.

Eastern Terai districts such as Jhapa and Morang also experienced rainfall and thunderstorms from Wednesday morning, the Meteorological Forecasting Division reported. The current weather activity is being attributed to the combined influence of western disturbances, local winds, and moisture-carrying winds from the Bay of Bengal.

Air quality in the Valley had deteriorated significantly over the past week due to prolonged dry conditions, prompting a surge in pollution-related health complaints, including eye irritation and headaches.
