Kathmandu: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will discuss “land,” “power plants,” and “dividing up certain assets” with Russian President Vladimir Putin during Ukraine peace talks set for Tuesday.
According to a BBC report, Moscow has confirmed that a call between the two leaders is being planned but has not disclosed details of the agenda. Meanwhile, U.S. officials are maintaining a cautiously optimistic stance on a possible ceasefire deal, though Moscow’s tone remains assertive, BBC’s Sarah Rainsford analyzed.
As diplomatic efforts continue, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has cast doubt on Russia’s intentions, stating that Moscow “doesn’t really want peace” while Ukraine-related talks take place in Brussels.
On the battlefield, Ukrainian and Russian drone strikes persisted overnight. Ukrainian authorities reported that Russia is still attempting to invade the northern Sumy region, which borders Russia’s Kursk region. BBC correspondent Jonathan Beale spoke with Ukrainian troops about their “catastrophic” withdrawal from the area as Russian forces continue to advance.
The upcoming talks between Trump and Putin could mark a significant moment in the ongoing war, though concerns remain over the nature of the proposed discussions.
