8 Nepalis deported from the US arrive in Kathmandu, handed over to Nepal police

Kathmandu: Eight Nepali citizens who were living in the United States without legal documentation have been deported and arrived in Kathmandu on a chartered flight.

The flight, which departed from Portsmouth International Airport in New Hampshire, landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 10 a.m. The deported individuals were released upon arrival in Nepal.

This move aligns with the US government’s policy of deporting undocumented immigrants, a stance emphasized during former President Donald Trump’s administration. Prior to this, 27 Nepalis had voluntarily returned from the US, but this marks the first instance of the American government directly deporting Nepalis and facilitating their return.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the individuals deported or the circumstances leading to their removal.
