Kathmandu: Former King Gyanendra Shah is set to visit Gorakhpur, India, on Thursday, where he will offer prayers at the Gorakhnath Temple and perform a special puja.
Currently in Bhairahawa, near the India-Nepal border, the former king will travel to Gorakhpur from there, according to his Personal Secretariat.
During the visit, he is also expected to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Indian media have reported that preparations are underway for their meeting.
Offering khichdi at the Gorakhnath Temple is a long-standing tradition of Nepal’s Shah kings, as Gorakhnath is their clan deity. Former King Shah will continue this custom during his visit, with CM Adityanath also likely to be present at the temple.
