Donald Trump wins election as the 47th President of the United States

Kathmandu: Former President Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the 2024 U.S. Presidential election, defeating current Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party candidate. Trump secured a second term in office after overcoming Harris, who was aiming to become the first female president in U.S. history.

To win the presidency, a candidate needs 270 electoral votes. Trump, the Republican nominee, garnered 279 electoral votes, while Harris received 223 votes. Trump had previously won the presidency in 2016, and his victory in 2024 marks his return to the White House for a second consecutive term.

This election had been expected to be one of the most fiercely contested in U.S. history, with predictions suggesting the possibility of a historic win for a female president. However, Trump won comfortably, defying expectations in several key battleground states. Notably, Trump made strong gains in traditionally Democratic strongholds and in states where voters were expected to be more unpredictable, highlighting his broad appeal across the nation.
