Nepal govt urges public to avoid firecracker sales during Tihar festival

Kathmandu: Government authorities are warning the public against the sale and distribution of firecrackers during the upcoming Tihar festival. Engaging in these activities could lead to serious legal consequences, including imprisonment for up to three years and fines of up to 30,000 Nepalese Rupees.

Nepal Police has confirmed that these measures are part of the provisions outlined in the Penal Code of Nepal, 2074 BS. The law specifically targets illegal import, transportation, storage, and distribution of firecrackers, citing concerns over environmental pollution and safety risks associated with their use.

Ministry of Home Affairs has also stated that inspections are being conducted at border points and along highways to prevent the illegal transportation of firecrackers. The ministry has warned that any firecrackers discovered during these inspections will be confiscated, and legal action will be taken against those found in violation of the law.

Authorities are urging the public to adhere to these regulations to ensure a safe and environmentally friendly Tihar celebration.
